Journal #11
As I was working on this project working with Adobe Audition, I learned how to do things that I didn't know. I knew that of course there is sound edits because almost all music we hear has some. Whether its on the radio, TV, downloaded... they're there. I just never really thought to look into how to edit sound myself. I learned about the amplitude and some different effects they have to offer. There are some pretty interesting ones, and some pretty non-interesting ones. I like the effect stretch and pitch that makes your voice either speed up or slow down the most. I actually used it to speed up my voice in my project.

This is my project proposal for project 3-
I made this piece because it shows how hectic and stressful life
can get at times. Between peoples professional life and personal life. There’s
always going to be obstacles that get in the way that you just have to try to
figure it out. But at the end of the day, you should try to make the best of
what you have. Because if you really
think about it, it could always be worse. I decided to make it because it
reminds me of what my life is like right now. Just trying to make ends meet
working hard, while trying to keep up with school, and attempting to maintain a
personal life all at once. The connection between the sounds is first layer, the
“original recordings” I’m a bartender so it’s just what a busy night is like
just taking order after order running around. Second layer is ice-cubes and
cans opening. Third layer is glass shattering. The sound I found was Cups by
Anna Kendrick which is about her upset a relationship is ending, but looking at
it from a more positive view. Because I was thinking, and in reality, it’s okay
to be alone. People just want that extra support system, but you shouldn’t let
one person make or break you. I edited the beginning adding the effect stretch
and pitch making it faster, because I talk so much at work and is so fast
paced. I edited the ice and cans with the convolution reverb to add more emphasis
to it. And I edited the glass breaking with an echo to draw out how glass
shattering is like the turning point when things get real rough.

I read the reading, "ART VIEW; Virtual Reality: Is It Art Yet?"
Basically the whole thing was about Virtual Reality and different peoples view on it. Even though we all know its the latest and greatest computer technology, some people think theres more to it. Mr. Mulligan made a virtual reality of illusionary space, referred to like a Star Trek. If you want to make a full on three-dimensional illusion of virtual reality, its very expensive. I don't think I would pay the money for it, but a lot of artists do. Although, the reason a lot of artists don't is because of the price also. Something I do like about virtual reality is that it has links to earlier art- some with paintings and also with technology. Virtual reality is thought to be the "perfect medium" for the future generation of illusionistic video games. There are so many games of virtual reality they pop up everywhere now- whether in a bar to eventually rides at amusement parks.

This week I had another one-on-one meeting with Mr. Torres for project #2. I had some ideas for what I was going to do my project on, but wasn't positive how I was going to display it so he gave me some ideas. I'm not very creative so was helpful having some ideas thrown out there. Its still in the making, but making progress.
